Coach Clanton took the reigns as the head coach for the Knights in 2016. Clanton spent the two previous years as the pitching coach and recruiting coordinator. During his time as the pitching coach, six of his pitchers moved onto play at the four-year level, including CJ Gettman, who was drafted by the San Francisco Giants in the 2016 MLB draft.

From 2014-2016 ,Coach Clanton was the head coach of Coeur d’Alene Lumbermen, an American Legion team in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho. During his three seasons at the helm, they made two state tournament appearances and had 21 players move on to play collegiately. Clanton spent 2011-2013 as a pitching coach in the program, helping lead the program to a state championship in his first year as a coach.

As a player, Clanton played four years at NAIA powerhouse Lewis-Clark State College under legendary coach Ed Cheff. Clanton finished his career 13-2 with 5 saves and a 3.5 ERA. He ended his career with the second most appearances in the school’s history, and was a member of four NAIA World Series rosters.

Zach graduated from Lewis-Clark State with a sports administration degree and a minor in coaching.

Beau Kerns
Pitching Coach / Recruiting Coordinator

Coach Kerns began his first year as the pitching coach and recruiting coordinator for the Knights in 2016. Kerns spent the previous season as an undergrad assistant coach at Lewis-Clark State College, helping with the pitching staff after a very successful playing career.

Coach Kerns led the Apple Valley Packers based out of Central Washington in his first year as head coach. The team went on to send six players to play collegiately. He spent the 2015 summer as the pitching coach for the Lewis-Clark Twins and helped lead them to a runner-up finish in the Idaho State Tournament.

Beau started out his collegiate career at Wenatchee Valley College, compiling a 13-3 record over his two stints along with a career ERA of 1.68. Kerns also spent two summers playing for the Wenatchee Applesox. Beau then transferred back to his hometown Warriors and helped lead the charge to a 17th national championship, serving as the ace in 2015 and winning NAIA World Series MVP. Kerns finished his career 21-1 with a 2.70 ERA.

Beau graduated from Lewis-Clark State with a kinesiology degree.

 

Dustin Kerns
Hitting Coach

Coach Kerns starts his first season at WVC as the hitting coach and will also spend time coaching the Catchers.

Previously, Kerns spent the 2015 summer as the head coach of the Asotin County Blues, an American Legion Baseball team in Asotin, Washington.

Dustin started out his collegiate career at Skagit Valley Community College before transferring to Yakima Valley Community College and playing two seasons there. During his time at YVCC he helped his teams make two NWAC tournament appearances. Kerns finished his career as a catcher and outfielder at Bellevue University, a highly successful NAIA program in Nebraska. While at Bellevue, he won the Gold Glove as a catcher in the MCAC conference.

Dustin graduated from Bellevue with a degree in international security and intelligence studies.
